Playmates Update
(It's not good news...)

Just got this notification from Playmates on future product-

Playmates Toys has been trying to come up with alternative ways to continue distributing our Star Trek brand of toys. Unfortunately, we have been unable to come up with additional distribution options and have discontinued the Star Trek line. Playmates sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this has cause you or your family.

That's a bummer. I was hoping that at least the proposed TOS 3.75" figure 2-packs (which we're rumored to be a collaboration between DST and Playmates) were going to still happen, but it sounds like all Trek is pretty much dead at Playmates...

  1. I have never had the money to really even consider action figures, Playmates or otherwise. Some Hallmark ornaments here, some Micro Machines ships there, but my collecting ability has been very limited first by youth then by college.

  2. Logical.
Playmates new film toys were a disaster.
The only one I bougth, was the 12" ambassador Spock, when it went dow a 1/3 of the original price at Spain's Tru.Quality kinda sucks but i'm a sucker for original Spock too.
The rest of the line its a shame.Shitty stuff for the kids, who have much better toy lines theses days.
By the other hand most of TOS fans are not into the new actors.

Cheers! I love this blog. It helps me a lot when Im getting my AA/DST figures.

  3. Enough is enough with Playmates, I'll never buy from them again. I have the entire original Star Trek Playmates toys, while they are good, the new stuff coming from DST is far and away better. We the fans deserve better than this, Playmates dropped the ball with the new movie toys, Mattel has dropped the ball with their 1/50 scale ship what's next?? CBS need here from us fans on what we want and frankly from want company we are willing to buy it from, maybe CBS can pump some money into DST, get a solid partnership going so they can get the products on the store shelves.

  4. I'm surprised that the success of the last Star Trek movie didn't translate into merchandising success. Did the "poor" quality of the Playmates' Star Trek toys really account for the poor sales?
