Star Trek 'Potpourri' Spotlight-
Comic-Con 2009 Freebies!

The Rundown: So my last SDCC 2009 Spotlight here covers some of the freebies you could snag from the Paramount booth as part of their Star Trek DVD promotion. You know what though? I had to buy all of these. My buddy Bob managed to snag every exclusive I asked him to pick up for me at the show (including the ridiculously tough-to-obtain Uhura ornament), but he couldn't get near the Paramount booth for these little trinkets without waiting at least 2 hours in line. Why? Because people love free stuff, that's why! If you stuck it out, here's what you could get:

Item Name: Star Trek USB Port Pin

This one's the lamest of the bunch. It's a rubbery command delta shield with a little pin on the back so you can wear it. The shield splits apart, and there's a little USB plug in the middle. Plug this guy into your computer, and it takes you to the website promoting the DVD release of the new film. Wow. Unless you can get this one insanely cheap (like free), don't bother.

Item Name: Vulcan Foam Fingers

This one's a little bit cooler- A giant foam hand doing the Vulcan salute. The hand was available in blue or red color. This one's worth a couple of bucks for the novelty...but really, what can you really do with this? I'm still trying to figure that out...

Item Name: Tribble (SDCC 2009 promo version)

This is easily the best of the bunch. The tribble was available in brown, white, or gray. Squeeze him, and he emits a quick purring noise (though supposedly a bunch of the ones handed it out didn't work). I don't see a way to replace his batteries so once he's dead, that's it. This tribble is about half the size of the DST version, but the fur on this one is much nicer in my opinion. The SDCC tribbles are going from between $8-$30 right now. Well worth the $10-$15 range, but anymore than that is pushing it. This is one that I was pleased with buying though and I actually do recommend going after it. I'm actually still trying to snag a white and gray myself...

Oh yeah, and there's a big tag on the tribble telling you to take a picture of you and your tribble and upload it for everyone to see! I haven't done that yet... I'll be sure to post if I do. ;)

Apparently there may have been a t-shirt too, but I don't have that. It's just a t-shirt though, so no big deal.
